Game for the Ages

This last Wednesday night I was able to witness one of the best basketball games that I will ever see in my lifetime. The Duke and North Carolina game is one that will be talked about for years to come. Throughout the game the two ACC giants stood toe to toe, trading blows.

It looked like it was over when UNC pulled out to an 8 point lead with under 3 minutes in the game. Tyrus Jones put the Blue Devils on his back and willed them to overtime. Once overtime was reached Jahlil Okafor, who many consider to be the best player this year in college basketball, came to life. UNC still put up a good fight in overtime, and almost secured the rebound on the last free throw attempt that could have led to a basket and a second overtime. I hope to see a rematch in the ACC tournament and maybe even big dance in March.

  1. This was a great game, despite the fact that I only caught the highlights! Also, random interjection here, but did you see Coach Williams honor Coach Smith by running four corners? Great moment!

  2. I agree that Okafor was not his explosive self, limited by a sprained ankle, but was still effective enough to push them to overtime. The Tar Heels played with a definite sense of urgency which is a result of their desperation for a win, and had they played with this skill their past four games, they would not be in their current position. Although the Blue Devils needed this win to retain No. 1 candidacy, UNC may have needed it more, for moral if nothing else. Their March 7 rematch cannot come soon enough.

  3. That game was insane! Every year you can count on those two teams putting up one incredible show. If they meet in the ACC tournament who do you think will come out on top?
